It is interesting looking at my sketches throughout last year. I see how I have improve and appreciate the steps I took to grow, even if they are tiny steps. My name is Jonathan Bowling and I am a working Animator/ Artist who lives in the Bay Area. I am a graduate of Academy of Art University in Character Animation and currently working on short films. My goal in life is to be a great teacher as well as artist.
An update of caricatures I have done recently. I am happy to say I have gotten faster in my caricatures and I think I have improved.
I was waiting for a bus late at night and I saw this message spray painted near my stop. I do not consider myself a professional photographer, but I felt I needed to take this photo and have it on a postcard for others. The people who have received it so far have loved the card and its message.
It is a challenge to sit and draw with eyes on me, and I still on occasion get self conscious about it, but I do improve. I do feel a sense of satisfaction at the end of a caricature gig.
Claudio is one of the first professional models I ever drew in person. He and I go way back to 2007, observing my artistic journey throughout the years. I was very proud to make a drawing of him that he loved and I do have him (and many excellent models like him) to thank for my help throughout my art journey.
I have been taking my pen and ink drawings from my sketchbook and making simple prints with them with Photoshop. This is a mix medium of Traditional and Digital.
Here are examples of my art at events doing caricature work. It has been rewarding and personally fulfilling doing this for events around the city.

So this Month I have been teaching students how to render Doughnuts in 3d. This is my first pass at it. Not very realistic but I do like it.
The past two months I have been going to Art Workshops again and I can see my progress. It has been great and therapeutic to my mind heart, and soul to draw like this again. I am seeing myself grow as an artist.
I have become less judgemental of myself when I create for myself. I try to just let myself wonder and draw what makes me happy. Apparently, mystery stories make me happy. This was me just playing around with this and having fun. I may draw her again later on.
My friend Suzy Q sang at That's Amore last week. She is a lovely singer and this is the caricature drawing of her I did during her performance and was singing "Stand By Me". I hope to come back and draw more.
A friend of mine at church wanted a drawing of a fisherman by a body of water. This was my first time in a while drawing with markers/watercolors and I am pleased with how it turned out. I will be doing more of these types of drawings in cafes and restaurants.
This was fun to design!
