Sketches

It is interesting looking at my sketches throughout last year.  I see how I have improve and appreciate the steps I took to grow, even if they are tiny steps.

Jenna was the model and she is excellent.  Fun to draw!

More Caricatures!

An update of caricatures I have done recently.  I am happy to say I have gotten faster in my caricatures and I think I have improved.

God Loves You

I was waiting for a bus late at night and I saw this message spray painted near my stop.  I do not consider myself a professional photographer, but I felt I needed to take this photo and have it on a postcard for others.  The people who have received it so far have loved the card and its message.

More Caricatures!

I have been apart of a few more caricature gigs since my last post.  I feel myself getting faster and more confident in myself.  Looking forward to more events where I can grow my skills and business opportunities.

It is a challenge to sit and draw with eyes on me, and I still on occasion get self conscious about it, but I do improve.  I do feel a sense of satisfaction at the end of a caricature gig.

Claudio

Claudio is one of the first professional models I ever drew in person.  He and I go way back to 2007,  observing my artistic journey throughout the years.  I was very proud to make a drawing of him that he loved and I do have him (and many excellent models like him) to thank for my help throughout my art journey.

The Jon Side

I recently had a silly event happen at work and I drew this homage to Gary Larson's classic "The Far Side".  I do enjoy modeling but some days I do just want to draw ;) .

I have been taking my pen and ink drawings from my sketchbook and making simple prints with them with Photoshop.  This is a mix medium of Traditional and Digital.

Treasure Map/Crossword Puzzle for Elementary Students

This past Spring Semester I made a Treasure Map/Crossword Puzzle for the students I was watching over at the charter school I was assigned to.  It was something fun that the kids really enjoyed solving and drawing on.  Kept a copy for myself.  I plan on making more of these type of puzzles.

Another Workshop Warm up

I need to continue to upload my other workshop drawings.  This was a 25 minute drawing of a model from a clothed figure workshop.  Pencil then Pen and Ink.  More to come!

Caricature Work

Here are examples of my art at events doing caricature work.  It has been rewarding and personally fulfilling doing this for events around the city.

If interested, email me at baoshan 88@gmail.com to book an event.

So this Month I have been teaching students how to render Doughnuts in 3d.  This is my first pass at it.  Not very realistic but I do like it.

More Rough Sketches

The past two months I have been going to Art Workshops again and I can see my progress.  It has been great and therapeutic to my mind heart, and soul to draw like this again.  I am seeing myself grow as an artist.

Workshop. 20 min Drawing

The hardest thing about growth is it takes time, but when you see yourself improve it's fantastic.  I am happy with my progress, no matter how slow.  This was a 20 mins pencil/pen and ink drawing in an art workshop.

Inktober Fun

I have become less judgemental of myself when I create for myself.  I try to just let myself wonder and draw what makes me happy.  Apparently, mystery stories make me happy.  This was me just playing around with this and having fun.  I may draw her again later on.

My study of Batman TAS Style

This summer I had the pleasure of teaching Bruce Timm's Batman TAS style to some students.  It was my first time seriously studying this style and trying to design a scene.  I have come to really appreciate this style and I will continue to study it later on.  The students also did fantastic learning this style!  Tune in next time.... same Bat Time, same Bat Channel!

Caricature Night

My friend Suzy Q sang at That's Amore last week.  She is a lovely singer and this is the caricature drawing of her I did during her performance and was singing "Stand By Me".  I hope to come back and draw more.

Fisherman Watercolor/Marker

A friend of mine at church wanted a drawing of a fisherman by a body of water.  This was my first time in a while drawing with markers/watercolors and I am pleased with how it turned out.  I will be doing more of these types of drawings in cafes and restaurants.

My Charcoal Examples from teaching class.

This past month I taught middle schoolers how to draw full figure with charcoal and newsprint.  It was great to be back in traditional mediums and to guide the next generation of artists.  I was pleased to see how well the students improved within 1 week.  At the end of class I did one last drawing and I was pleased to see how much I had improved as an artist.  The journey keeps going!

Leaf Falling

As I teach students how to animate, I do the assignment with them.  It has been fun and educational for me to go through the same assignments with them that I did as a student.

Dinosaur Animation

So for a month I taught my classes how to animate a character in Adobe Animate.  We created the characters in Photoshop, then exported the character into Animate.  Added some Royalty-Free Sound too.

This was fun to design!
